Ocean Navitas’ Technology Selected for Development in Taiwan

itri llongdongOcean Navitas’ Aegir Dynamo wave energy converter has been selected as the most suitable technology for development in Taiwanese waters out of 50 global technologies assessed by Scottish renewable energy consultants Aquatera Ltd.

Aquatera were selected by ITRI to assess the potential for wave energy development in Taiwan. Their aim was to identify a wave energy converter technology which was suitable for installation/testing at Llongdong Taiwan.
The Aegir Dynamo was identified as the most suitable solution for Taiwan’s wave resource, and ITRI’s testing budget. It is planned that the installation of three small demonstration devices will take place at the test site during 2010-11.

The demonstration project is intended to promote marine energy and prove the viability of wave energy converters in Taiwanese waters, leading to further development and the installation of up to 75MW of capacity by 2025.

International collaboration on the project between Ocean Navitas, Aquatera and ITRI is now underway. Representatives from Ocean Navitas have visited ITRI’s premises in Taiwan to view the testing site, research labs and industrial capabilities within the organisation and country.
