NaRECEMECWaveHub

NarecOcean Navitas will be using the facilities at the New and Renewable Energy Centre in Blyth, Northumberland for the testing and verification our a 2kW prototype.

The Marine Test Facility consists of 3 seawater docks together with a wave maker and access to pumps to emulate a tidal race. The facility provides within a controlled environment an intermediate testing capability at typically 1/10th scale. As well as enabling the validation of numerical models the facility provides opportunities for developers to address the issues of key component performance earlier and at much lower costs than sea-based trials.

  • Wave Flume 5.2 m width X length 56 m at depths of between 4.2-7.2m
  • Wave height up to 1.2 m at peak period of 2.8 seconds
  • Wave heights greater than 0.8 m obtained across period range of 2 to 4 seconds
  • Irregular waves with Jonswap and Pierson-Moskowitz spectrum
  • Calibrated instrumentation and data acquisition systems
  • Site water pumps and mobile crane (30 tonne nominal)
  • Direct interface to EnergyLINK Laboratory
